Melvin Myers Christensen, 72; formerly of Jeffersonville
A memorial Mass for Melvin Myers Christensen, 72, of Macon, Ga., will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 15, at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church, Macon, with private burial. He died Monday, May 12, 2008, at Heartland Hospice House after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
He was born Nov. 20, 1935 in Jeffersonville, and resided there until his relocation to Macon in 1979. He retired from Brown and Williamson Tobacco Corporation in 1990. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and an Army veteran.
Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Patricia Grady Christensen; and three daughters, Melanie Gonterman and husband, Ricky, Melinda Christensen, and Melissa Wacter and husband, Alan, all of Macon.
He was a wonderful grandfather to Geoffrey Walker, Statesboro, Ga., Wendy Walker, Valdosta, Ga., Margo Gonterman, Athens, Ga., and Meredith Wacter, Macon.
A Rosary will be said at Hart’s Mortuary, 765 Cherry St., Macon, at 6 p.m., Wednesday, May 14, and the family will greet friends at the funeral home following the Rosary until 8 p.m.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Heartland Hospice House, 115 Arkwright Landing, Macon, Ga., 31210, or to the Labor of Love, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 830 Poplar Street, Macon, Ga., 31201, or to Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Building Fund, 4074 Chambers Road, Macon, Ga., 31206.
