David Danley Sagebiel, 63; Army veteran

Funeral services for David Danley Sagebiel, 63, of Jeffersonville, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, at Scott Funeral Home’s Main Street Chapel, with burial in Eastern Cemetery. He died Friday, Sept. 5, 2008, at Clark Memorial Hospital.

He was born March 16, 1945, in Jeffersonville, to the late James and Edna Sagebiel. He was a 1963 graduated from Jeffersonville High School. Upon graduation, he joined the U.S. Army. Like many of his generation, he served his country bravely in the Vietnam War. At height of the war, he spent nearly a year on the front lines, where he served as a medic — triaging wounded soldiers from the field of battle to safety. His country honored his service by awarding him with medals of heroism and valor.

He returned to his home of Jeffersonville in the early 70s where he lived the remainder of his days.

Even after experiencing the terrors of war, his family and friends will attest they never saw him angry or bitter about his experience. He was a gentle soul who enjoyed a good conversation, a game of horseshoes and watching his beloved Indiana Hoosiers. He greeted all who met him with a smile.

He leaves behind a family who loved him and many good friends that will miss him dearly.

He is survived by brothers, Bruce and Ralph Sagebiel; six nephews; and several great nieces and nephews.

Visitation at the funeral home will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday.
