Russell T. Tate, Sr., 84; World War II Navy veteran

Funeral services for Russell T. Tate Sr., 84, of New Albany, will be at noon Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Kraft Funeral Services, Charlestown Road Chapel, with entombment in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park. He died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II, and was retired from Dupont Chemical, having been an employee for 38 years.

Survivors include a son, Russell Tate Jr.; a stepson, Gary Murphy and his wife, Jeanne; two grandsons, Gary Murphy Jr. and his wife, Michelle and Thomas Murphy and his wife, Jeanette; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Sara Sellers; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Pearl Tate, who passed away on Feb. 16, 2008 and a son, Daryl Scott Tate who died at birth in 1963.

Visitation at the funeral home will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today, Tuesday, Oct. 7.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the American Diabetes Foundation.
