Retired Four-star Gen. Wesley Clark, once a contender for the presidency, is visiting Sellersburg today to campaign on behalf of presidential hopeful Sen. Hillary Clinton, campaign officials say.
Clark served the U.S. Army for 34 years and rose to become NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander. From late 2003 until mid-2004, Clark ran for president of the United States as a Democrat, winning the state of Oklahoma. Clark left the race to pursue other endeavors.
He was discussed in national media reports as a possible Democratic Party nomination contender for the 2008 election, but chose to maintain his lifestyle as an author and working in nonprofit public service.
Clark also is speaking to Hoosier veterans Friday in Scottsburg. The two events in the area that Clark is attending this week are part of a national and statewide tour where he will explain to people why he believes Clinton is the best candidate for the presidency, according to a news release from Hoosiers for Hillary. He is also scheduled to visit Indianapolis and West Lafayette this week.
