City of Jeffersonville to tear down home

Board OKs plan to remove unsafe structure along Thompson Lane

City workers will tear down a home at 410 Thompson Lane because it’s considered by officials to be an unsafe structure.

Jeffersonville’s Board of Public Works and Safety approved a motion allowing for the demolition during a Wednesday morning meeting.

The city flagged the blighted property as an unsafe structure in January, according to Building Inspector Connie Sellers. Sellers also is president of the Jeffersonville City Council.

At the time, the property owner was given time in order to get the building up to code. Sellers said that hasn’t happened.

The board will give the property owner 30 days to remove items from the building.

“We’re going to give them a date and on that date we’re going to tear it down,” said Mayor Tom Galligan, a board member.

In other business

• The board approved the closure of the Clark Memorial Bridge between 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Aug. 23 for an American Legion Parade.

The parade is on Main Street in Louisville, but the closure would prevent traffic congestion where the street meets the bridge, according to parks department Assistant Superintendent Bev Knight.
