Ceremony will honor Floyd County ‘Giants’

“Giants in the Faith: Celebrating Today’s Christian Role Models” is the theme of the second annual family-centered luncheon from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 24, at Huber’s Barnyard Bash in Starlight.

Here are the details about the event hosted by Interfaith Community Council for the Floyd County Christian community with The Tribune as title sponsor. Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Funeral Homes and First Harrison Bank are supporting sponsors.



What is the event all about?

The public is invited to a luncheon at which local people of all ages will be honored for having had an impact on someone’s Christian faith. Tickets for the public will be available later in July, but we need your participation now to submit names of people who will be honored for having an impact on someone’s Christian faith.

It’s an opportunity to celebrate God’s goodness through His servants now instead of listening to glowing testimonies after a person is gone.

How may I designate someone to be honored?

The success of this celebration of God’s use of people around us will depend on people like you who will tell us whom to honor at the event. Submit a completed Honoree Form (available at ICC member churches, in The Tribune each week, and at The Tribune and ICC offices) indicating the name of someone who specifically has strengthened your faith.

The firm deadline for submitting the form is Monday, July 14.

Will everyone automatically be honored?

Yes. All whose names are submitted and who commit to being present Aug. 24 (please ask the honoree first) will be honored. We emphatically urge you not use the term “nominate,” since there is no selection process.

What are the criteria?

1. The honoree (individual or married couple) must live or worship in Floyd County.

2. The person you designate as an honoree may be a Christian of any age.

3. The person may be serving in any walk of life and in any role — job, home, church, community.

4. You and your honoree must be able to attend on Aug. 24, and then we’ll publicize the names of all honorees when we invite the public to make reservations for the event later.

5. Last year’s honorees are ineligible to be honored again, although they may submit the name of someone else to be honored.



How will this information be shared?

A list of all honorees will appear in Tribune advertisements in late July when reservations for the celebration will be taken and will continue through mid-August. Honorees’ names and the brief explanation of their impact will be compiled into a booklet given to all attendees at the celebration Aug. 24. And their names and brief comments will be read during the program.



May I submit more than one form?

No. While you may have been blessed by many such people, this is a time for you to designate one individual or married couple.

What if more than one person designates the same person to be honored?

That may happen. Interfaith will consolidate the forms to use as much information about the person’s impact as possible within the space constraints to be fair to all who will be listed in the commemorative booklet. If you know of others who are designating the same person, it would, therefore, be wise to fill out the form together so you have control over the wording of the impact that must fit the space on one form. But all forms will be accepted.



Will we get to sit together?

Every effort will be made to seat people near their honorees. You will have a chance to request that on the reservation form that will appear in The Tribune ads starting July 20. Once you have submitted the name of an honoree, please begin to invite his or her family members, friends, and others who would enjoy sharing in the afternoon that will applaud such wonderful people. It would be most convenient for you to make reservations as a group, although that is not required.



What will the luncheon’s program include?

Special guest will be Stephanie Heitz, local Christian vocalist. The focus will be on giving God the glory for these servants and on the honorees.



What is the cost?

This is not a fund raiser but a friend raiser, so costs are kept as low as possible. Interfaith will pay for the honoree. Others will pay $20 for adults (ages 12 and older) and $15 for children (ages 4 to 11), and it’s free for children age 3 and younger. Watch for reservation information starting July 20. Last year’s first event drew 300 people, so make your reservations as soon as the forms appear.



What’s on the menu?

Huber’s is famous for its family-friendly buffet that will include chicken, honey ham, vegetables, slaw, potatoes, fried biscuits with apple butter and honey, homemade chicken and dumplings, assorted fresh fruit cobblers, ice cream, and unlimited beverages (soft drinks and tea).
