Fire causes evacuation of Parkwood Elementary

Students moved to alternative site for the day, school will open tomorrow

A minor electrical fire this morning at Parkwood Elementary School in Clarksville caused an evacuation and students to be moved to an alternate site.

Students and staff were safely evacuated from the school and were moved to River Falls Assembly of God, the designated emergency center, according to Marty Bell, chief operating officer for Greater Clark County Schools. Bell said the fire was contained in piping outside of the building and was possibly stemmed from some old wiring.

“The interesting things is the kids were outside on a fire drill when it happened,” Bell said. “Somebody was looking out for us.”

Students were served lunch at the church and will remain there for the rest of the school day. Afternoon preschool at Parkwood has been canceled for today.

Bell said the school will be back open Wednesday.
