Twin sisters open cafe in downtown New Albany

Breakfast, lunch, dessert served in former Main Street Grind building

Theresa Dick stewed, just a little. The sign she ordered was supposed to be up by Tuesday’s grand opening.

Nonetheless, people filtered in and out of Main Street Cafe & Treats, so the place wasn’t exactly incognito.

Dick and her identical twin sister, Lisa Fouts, opened their first restaurant Tuesday, leasing the building where Main Street Grind shut down its business March 31.

The cafe’s staples are breakfast, sandwiches, salads and desserts. The pair “want to specialize in desserts,” Dick said.

Until recently, their specialty was the bottom line. Dick, who lives in Sellersburg, has an accounting background and Fouts, a Louisville resident, is a financial manager at a Toyota dealership.

Dick attended culinary school in Florida five years ago and was in the middle of a business-plan class at IU Southeast this spring when the Main Street opportunity came.

“I just like it because it’s historic,” Dick said of the space. “I think there’s a lot of growth going on down here.”

Plus, so far, Dick likes running a restaurant “much better” than accounting.
