GOLF: Your guide to area golf courses

Whether you are a golfer with a low handicap or one who has just picked up the game, Clark and Floyd County residents have plenty of area courses to choose from to fit their respective handicaps.

These courses include two owned by former Masters and U.S. Open champion Fuzzy Zoeller, two private courses and three nine-hole courses.

The following is a breakdown of each course in the Clark-Floyd area:



CLARK COUNTY

CHAMPIONS POINTE GOLF CLUB

ADDRESS: 1820 Champions Club Lane, Henryville 47126

GREEN FEES: Monday through Thursday — 18 holes with cart, $65; Friday through Sunday and holidays — 18 holes with cart, $70; twilight after 2 p.m. (seven days a week) — 18 holes with cart, $49.

TEE TIMES: Can be made 10 days in advance for non-members.

PAR: 72.

DIFFICULTY LEVEL: Intermediate to expert.

NOTES: Champions Pointe is the youngest of the two courses Zoeller owns in Clark County. It opened last year and will kick off Wolf Challenge festivities with “The Saturday Shamble” on Saturday, Aug. 9.



COVERED BRIDGE GOLF CLUB

ADDRESS: 12510 Covered Bridge Road, Sellersburg 47172

GREEN FEES: Monday through Thursday — 18 holes with cart, $65; Friday through Sunday and holidays — 18 holes with cart, $70; twilight after 2 p.m. (seven days a week) — 18 holes with cart, $49.

WINTER RATES (Nov. 1-March 31): Monday through Thursday — 18 holes with cart, $35; Friday through Sunday and holidays — 18 holes with cart, $45.

TEE TIMES: Can be made 10 days in advance for non-members.

DIFFICULTY LEVEL: Intermediate to expert.

NOTES: The Zoeller-owned course opened in 1994. It hosts Zoeller’s annual charity golf tournament, the Wolf Challenge. Headlining this year’s Wolf will be 18-time major winner Jack Nicklaus.



HIDDEN CREEK GOLF CLUB

HOOSIER HILLS GOLF COURSE

GREEN FEES: Monday through Sunday — nine holes w/o cart, $8; nine holes with cart, $15; 18 holes w/o cart, $14; 18 holes with cart, $26.

DIFFICULTY LEVEL: Intermediate.



JEFFERSONVILLE ELKS GOLF CLUB

ADDRESS: 1820 Charlestown Pike, Jeffersonville 47130

HOURS: 7:30 a.m.-8 p.m. during the peak season.

MEMBERSHIP FEES: Golf dues — $1,380 per year with $600 initiation fee; lodge dues — $295 per year with $100 initiation fee.

GUEST GREEN FEES: 18 holes with cart, $50.15 (Note: guests must play in a group with an Elks member in order to play the private course.)

TEE TIMES: Golf Association members must set up tee times one week in advance.

PAR: 72

DIFFICULTY LEVEL: Intermediate to expert.



SPEED GOLF COURSE

GREEN FEES: Monday through Friday — unlimited amount of holes w/o cart, $10; Saturday, Sunday and holidays — unlimited amount of holes w/o cart, $12.

CART FEE: $5 per person per nine holes.

TEE TIMES: Not necessary.

PAR: 35 (nine-hole course)

DIFFICULTY LEVEL: Beginner to intermediate.

NOTES: Speed has two scrambles during the week that are open to the public. On Thursdays, there is a nine-hole scramble, starting at 6 p.m. On Saturday mornings, the course hosts an 18-hole scramble, beginning at 8:30. There is open golf on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, where no leagues or scrambles take place.



TWILIGHT GOLF COURSE

ADDRESS: 5316 U.S. Hwy. 62, Jeffersonville 47130

HOURS: 7 a.m.-dusk.

GREEN FEES: Monday through Sunday — nine holes w/o cart, $6; 18 holes w/o cart, $9.

OTHERS FEES: carts — $5 per person per nine holes; pull carts — $1; club rental — $1.

TEE TIMES: Not necessary.

PAR: 27 (nine-hole, par-3 course).

DIFFICULTY LEVEL: Beginner.

NOTES: Twilight is hosting three scrambles during the summer — a Monday night parent/child scramble, a Wednesday morning youth scramble and a Friday night adult scramble. The Monday and Friday scrambles will last until Sept. 30, while the Wednesday scramble will last until Aug. 12.



WOODED VIEW GOLF COURSE

FLOYD COUNTY

CHERRY VALLEY GOLF COURSE

NOTES: Cherry Valley was built in 1932 when it was known as Valley View Golf Course. In 1966, the course was renamed the Fuzzy Zoeller Par 3. The course became Cherry Valley in 1985.



NEW ALBANY COUNTRY CLUB

NOTES: Has hosted the Floyd Central boys’ golf sectional for the past several years; home course of the Floyd Central boys’ golf team that won back-to-back IHSAA state titles in 2006 and 2007.
