The New Washington volleyball team moved one step closer to repeating as Southern Athletic Conference champions on Monday night.
The Mustangs rallied from a two-games-to-one deficit to down host Crothersville, 28-26, 21-25, 14-25, 25-22, 15-10. New Washington (19-3) is 4-0 in the SAC and can wrap up the conference title with a win at South Central on Thursday, Oct. 16.
Lindsay Krohn led the Mustang attackers with 13 kills, while teammate Callie Burgin had 12 digs and 11 kills. New Wash senior Jenna Sexton made 13 digs and had eight service aces.
“I told the girls after the third game, ‘Hang in there and we’ll play five,’” Mustangs’ head coach Gary Graham said. “I did see some things that we need to work on. If we can find a night where we can get in the gym and practice, we’ll know what to work on.”
New Wash will travel to Switzerland County on Wednesday.
• Silver Creek downs Salem in three: With regular setter Danielle Ramser out with the flu, Leann Osterhaudt passed for 23 assists and visiting Silver Creek beat Salem 25-19, 25-20, 25-13.
Lindsey Maymon led the Dragons with 10 kills, four aces and 10 digs, while teammate Kristyn Maymon had nine kills and four aces. Shirley Jones added nine digs to bolster the Silver Creek defense.
“We’re not playing very good volleyball,” said Silver Creek coach Jeff Zimmerman. “We’ve got three weeks until sectionals and we still haven’t played our best match. Hopefully, we’ll do that in the next week or so.”
Silver Creek will travel to Austin tonight.
